Barren (poem)

Do you dream of holding my hands
like I do…
does it get overwhelming this longing
like it does…
the rivers have all dried
and the springs have disappeared…
desolate is the land my eyes see
for the rain the dew the blessing
that is you is missing…
I am losing words now…
words the only medium
through which I have some hope
of touching your heart…
I’m losing those too
and this is a battle…
a struggle
to be burdened by the weight
of unrequited love…
then by the weight of words
that I keep to myself…
and now the words that don’t come
for they have lost faith
in the fact that they will be heard…
barren lands eyes see…
parched heart my blood flows in
it gets thicker with the salt of my tears
dissolving and soaking up moisture from it…
everything is closing up on me
slowly but certainly…
I am facing a major crisis…
please come and rescue me…
only the rain of your words…
your refreshing presence
will bring back life
to this dying heart…
