Selcouth (poem)

Selcouth is what came to my mind when I wanted a title for this poem which I was urged to write by a dear friend on Instagram for this picture prompt of two pigeons, selcouth means strange, marvellous, wondrous, unfamiliar, unusual, just like these pigeons in my poem are to each other. It was winter when I wrote this, I guess you can see how the cold seeped into my poem too…

Wrapped in loneliness
with only the cold for warmth…
surviving on the hope
of love in distant arms…
strangers but well-versed with
the rhythm of the other’s heart…
they never spoke but
their souls hummed the same love songs…
all they had to do was turn and the
grey skies would wear the colour of their charms…
reach out and embrace the sunshine of love
and put to eternal rest their emotional storms…
now…only time will tell…
if they flew or they fell…
