Songbirds (poem)

There are a thousand different kinds of songbirds in this world and each bird’s song is different from the other, it’s strange how while we humans appreciate the diversity in nature we do not tolerate diversity in our ideas, opinions, voices, way of living.
This world is notorious for calling every body who is different, weird, someone with a voice, opinionated, people with a different way of looking at things, crazy and each day we are taught to fall in line, to be ‘normal’, to be like everyone else. We learn gradually to force ourselves to suppress our voices for fear of being abandoned but those small songbirds that we admire very much teach us an important lesson, to sing our own song. We should pay heed I say, it’s high time we start singing and dancing to our own tunes, the world will fall in line eventually …

Life had suppressed
my voice for too long …
then one day in my ears
poured a little bird it’s song …
a lightning within
my soul struck …
jolting me from my slumber up …
the small insignificant bird
taught me a big lesson …
to put my song out there
for the world to listen …
since then I’ve been singing myself hoarse …
never to lose my voice again
is now my main focus

Welcome to my world. I hope you like my work and if you do please leave a comment, my website is self-hosted so the regular like button and some features are missing, until you leave me words I won’t know if you liked my poetry, so please, but only if you are compelled by my words to. Thank you. I hope to see you again, do visit.

P.S. I have told you in one of my recent posts that I will be putting pictures of my art journal(not really great) here along with the posts and so I have here, only poetry is not art enough to me I’ve discovered. I will hopefully get better at this journaling with a little practice and trial and error so please bear with me, thank you.

  1. So very lovely Seema. Man, I have missed your voice 🙂 I completely agree with you. The more we live, the more we see and while I have always believed this, I believe it now more than ever. I shall sing, regardless, even if no one is listening.

Much love and respect sent your way!

  2. Hello dear Seema,
